The International Builders’ Show 2016 sets the stage for hot home trends we’ll see this year.
Every year, the International Builders’ Show (IBS) plays host to more than 100,000 attendees and highlights what’s hot in home design and building. The movers and the shakers of the industry gather to show the latest technological innovations and the greatest ideas for interiors. Heat & Glo brought our own fireplace contributions to the event, and there were a few overarching trends amongst the show’s exhibits we couldn’t help but notice. Here’s what you’ll be seeing a lot of in 2016.
Treat yourself to a little indulgence this year. Quality is overtaking as the most important detail for any element you bring into your home. High-end design filled the IBS floor with free-floating soaking tubs, artistically designed linear fireplaces and self-cleaning ovens catching our eye.
“Luxury is defined as updating classic home décor with rich fabrics that are plush and sophisticated, creating a feeling of decadent style,” HGTV home design director Nancy Fire had to say of the trend. “Luxurious natural materials like marble, onyx, copper and wood are accented in metallic finishes for a fresh take on product design.”
Mass appeal simply won’t do. How a product can be personalized is vital as customization becomes not just a benefit, but an expectation. It’s so important, that a recent survey by Better Homes and Gardens found that 63 percent of millennial respondents said having a home customized to them was a top priority. Options are a must, whether it is having the ability to send warmth where you want it or selecting French doors for your oven to match your personal preferences and style.
Technology is becoming more and more intuitive, a necessary adaption to fit into the increasingly fast-paced world we live in. Expect to see more and more home appliances featuring interconnectivity abilities, like window shades integrated with an app on your smartphone.
