U.S. Federal Tax Credit Overview

The U.S. Biomass Tax Credit has been reinstated for all eligible product purchases from January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2016.

Background
On December 18, 2015, the President signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 (H.R. 2029). This bill reauthorizes the tax credit for non-business energy property. Included in this section is the $300 federal tax credit for residential biomass heating products that meets the 75% efficiency requirement.

Consumers who make residential biomass heating purchases from January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2016 need to retain for their records a copy of the manufacturer’s certificate that demonstrates the product qualifies for Sec. 25C and a receipt (proof of purchase).
