SimpliFire x Hunker House Living Room Reveal

Urban Modern open space with high ceiling, white decor, low-profile seating and modern electric fireplace in slate hearth.

The pure simplicity of installing an electric fireplace is indisputable. Without the need for venting or a chimney, many electric models can simply be hung on the wall, plugged in to a standard outlet and away you go. But when we tasked the design team at Hunker to install an Allusion Platinum electric fireplace in their signature show home—aptly named Hunker House, located in Venice, California—we knew the results would be elegant, elevated and eye-catching.

The living room of Hunker’s tri-level loft was a ripe canvas for a modern-yet-cozy build-out DIY, documented in full on their blog.

With a design vision that was more “homey and custom,” the design team got to work on a hearth-style build-out before popping the Allusion Platinum into place.

With a minimal frame, the realistic-looking fire becomes the focal point of the space.

The elevation of the hearth places the fireplace off the ground and allows for bench seating on either side, perfect for a space that’s used for discussions and hangouts. And while not necessary for venting, the bump-out creates the illusion that the fireplace was built with the house. Win!

Equal parts modern and traditional, the easy-to-install fireplace features a choice of ember and flame styles, plus the option to crank up the thermostat or enjoy sans heat.

With the fireplace as the focal point, the Hunker team rounded out the room’s look with light wood furniture, neutral artwork and a few nature-inspired touches. To shop the room’s furnishings—fireplace included—head to Hunker for the full scoop.
