SimpliFire Format living room

If there were a way to take the pain out of installing a fireplace, would you be more inclined to add one? We thought you might. Bringing ambiance to your space has never been easier. Now, with just a few tools, a well-placed electrical outlet and the revolutionary wall-mount SimpliFire Format electric fireplace, you can bring the comfort of a fireplace to any room in your home. Forget the hassle of gas lines, venting, and construction—the Format has you covered so you can go from installing to recharging in as little as an afternoon.

Before You Begin

Before getting started with your project, ensure you have access to electricity. We recommend hiring a professional to move any electrical outlets so that the SimpliFire Format can be installed with the mantel hiding the outlet. This fireplace can be installed on either a masonry wall or framed wall like the one we use in this how-to.

While a dedicated circuit is not required, it is recommended to prevent circuit breaker trips or fuse failure. Refer to the manual for further specifications for placement, including special instructions if being installed in a bathroom.

Now, it’s time to get started! We recommend choosing a wall that’s clear of direct sunlight to reduce glare. Once you’ve got your location squared away, check the list below to make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials at the ready.

Tools and Materials

Before you begin, gather the following tools and supplies:

  • Tape measure
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Gloves
  • Level
  • Square
  • Magnetic Phillips screwdriver
  • Safety glasses
  • Drill
  • Product manual
  • Pencil

Step 1

Start by removing the wall-mount bracket from the back of the fireplace. You’ll need to remove the two screws on either side of the appliance, as well as two screws on the back of it. As you decide on placement of the bracket on the wall, ensure that it’s level and then mark the holes with a pencil.

Step 2

Using your stud finder, identify at least two places with a solid structural element behind it. You’ll mark these as the locations to attach a screw. The rest should be attached with wall board toggle-bolt anchors.

Step 3

Once you’ve fastened the mounting bracket to the wall, you can hang your fireplace. It’s best to work with another person for this step. Work together to place the fireplace on the tabs of the mounting bracket and finish securing the fireplace to the wall by attaching the two safety retainers.

Next, attach the floating mantel. First, slide the bottom mantel into place. Connect the bottom mantel wire connection to the appliance wire connector on the bottom of the fireplace. Then, fasten the bottom mantel section to the fireplace.

Step 7

Finally, deck out your fireplace with the included media. For crystal media, add and arrange it now. If you’re opting for the one-piece ShadowGlo™ Alpine Timber Log Set, simply place it directly onto the ember bed. (Both options are included with the fireplace.)

Now, plug the power cord into the receptacle and secure the cords out of the line of vision.
